Pediatrics in the Leuven region
A child who is not feeling well has a huge impact on the family. There is a great added value of multidisciplinary cooperation in a family-oriented environment such as Kindercentrum de Groeitrap. The aim is for children and parents to regain control and trust. By taking more time, giving a good explanation, starting expert treatment and giving the family insight into what they can do themselves to promote health and recovery.
Pediatrician Dr Maartje van den Berg provides care for children and young people aged 0-18. She takes the time to listen to your story and will work with you to find the causes of the problem and possible solutions.
What should you definitely contact De Groeitrap for?
STOMACH AND INTESTINAL COMPLAINTS │For stomach complaints such as stomach ache, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, reflux or feeding problems, your child can come to Kindercentrum De Groeitrap. During the consultation with the pediatrician, a possible cause will be investigated and it will be discussed which treatment or lifestyle measures may be useful. It is known that in addition to physical causes, other factors can also play a role in stomach complaints. For example, if children do not feel well or find something exciting. The pediatrician will investigate together with you which factors may play a role and which approach or guidance is most appropriate.
TOILET TRAINING PROBLEMS │ Many children are not yet toilet trained when school requires them to be. This often has a major impact on the child and the parents. If there are problems with bowel movements, urine loss or bedwetting, an appointment can be made with the pediatrician. She will map out what may be contributing to these problems. If there is constipation, this will be treated with medication. In addition, attention will always be paid to lifestyle advice focused on toilet use.
PERSISTENT PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS │ Persistent physical symptoms (PPS) or medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS), such as persistent pain, nausea or fatigue, are common in children and young people. We know that these complaints are very annoying and sometimes make it difficult to go to school or meet up with friends. For the outside world, this is not always easy to see or understand. This makes it difficult for children and parents to deal with. Sometimes they have already visited several doctors and a lot of medical research has been done, but a solution has not been found.
The pediatrician takes the time to investigate with you what is needed to reduce the complaints. The biopsychosocial model is used for this. The development, persistence and recovery of a complaint depends on the relationship between physical, mental and environmental factors. Attention is also paid to nutrition, sleep and exercise. Everyone's story is different, so it is always customized. We will look for answers to the following questions. What contributes to the complaints and what makes the complaints difficult to go away? Which approach or guidance is most appropriate to ensure that the complaints are reduced?
EXCESSIVE CRYING │ Some babies cry often or for a long time without any apparent cause, regardless of the amount of sleep, food and comfort. Many parents feel powerless, they have often tried everything and nothing seems to help. The pediatrician will take the time to listen to your story and will work with you to find a treatment or advice to reduce the crying.
WHAT WE DON'T DO | Acute problems, such as fever, are not assessed in our center. We prefer to leave this to general practitioners and pediatricians in the hospital. There is no possibility to have vaccinations administered in Kindercentrum de Groeitrap, for this you can go to Kind & Gezin.
The collaboration with our other disciplines is of great added value to the care that children and young people receive from the pediatrician at Kindercentrum De Groeitrap.
